About us - RIMUN story

The idea of giving the Liceo Farnesina of Rome its own MUN originates form the mind of two of the founders of RIMUN while attending their first MUN in Luebeck in 2005. However, despite a small group of people was soon reunited, nothing concrete was established. It was only on December 27th that two members of the original group (skiing on the Italian Alps) had the opportunity to raise the first funding for an Italian MUN.

Why RIMUN? Because they were aware that only few students of the school had the privilege of going abroad to Luebeck and Kalmar MUNs, and they consequently thought that only by having their own MUN more and more pupils would have experienced such a fantastic event.
Once back in Rome, the four friends began to talk of their project with the headmaster, and they found the important support of their English teacher, Anna Amato. After a first period of difficulty due to the hard acceptance of the project from the school's faculty, they finally drew the path: they found the enthusiastic support of institutions and even of the civil society. In July, after they attended the State exam, RIMUN was successfully funded!

However, in September 2006 RIMUN was still a hope, but not a reality yet. It was only after the meeting with four friends from Luebeck, that the four founders realized that this goal could really be achieved.
With the enthusiasm and pride of someone who is doing a great thing, they finally brought the first edition of RIMUN to reality: it was the March 30th, 2007 when the first Opening Ceremonies of the RIMUN story was hosted in the Council Hall Giulio Cesare of the Campidoglio.

Riding the wave of the success of the first session, the four decided to include other two guys in the realization of the following sessions of RIMUN: the "Fab 6" took care of the realization of the next 3 editions of RIMUN, always increasing the number of students (foreign and Italian) involved, as well as the width of RIMUN borders. During the years, students coming from Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Morocco, Israel, France, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Denmark, and Russia participated in RIMUN, so reaching 4 out of 5 continents in the globe.
They also had the project extended to other Italian schools, which are nowadays one of the pillars of the current edition of RIMUN.
All of this wouldn't have been possible without the passion, the intelligence and the enthusiasm of the students of Liceo Farnesina who have turned over during the years, and who have been essential in the realization of every year's session.
